Just some questions

Got some questions lately so I'm just answering here :)
As for food, we do grocery shopping we do that as a team. There's a budget and we make lists and either the whole team goes or just a few people go. So far it's going pretty good, every now and then we have to have a conversation about small things but it's all good. I've tried a lot of new things, like black bean and rice burgers and avacado! And surprisingly I liked both :) I feel like I'm learning a lot about different things I'm trying to be more open minded to everything including food. When it comes to cooking we take turns and the same with cleaning. We all take turns which is going extremely well.
On the topic of free time, I have some....not do much now as I did when we first got here but still some on weekends...when we get free time we basically get cabin fever! But it's not bad it's okay. There are places around here to go but I don't go out much cause I don't want to spend money or go out in the snow haha. There's a couple food places and some stores plus we go to town a lot so it's okay.Nwe generally don't have training on weekends but it can happen just hasnt happened to my team yet. Thankfully.
As for the demographics here I'm basically middle of the spectrum. Some people right out of high school, some people who graduated college, and some college students. Everyone here is at different parts of life so it's super interesting to see different perspectives on things.

I'll answer anything else I get on here too. Love you guys please feel free to send questions or anything it's hard for me to come up with interesting things but I'd love to know what you guys want to know :)

CTI project

Haven't updated in a while, been pretty busy around here. Lots of CTI trainings all day long. I feel like I've learned a lot though, I still love this place! However there was an interesting event...
On Friday (2/22/13) I was playing soccer in the gym and I ended up straining/spraining my knee..I've been hobbling around since there, I have a brace coming in the mail so hopefully that works! I'm getting better already though, still no full range of motion but it's getting there. I've just been told to wear a brace and no PT for a week.
Our first project is at the Cedar Rapids Sceience Center. It's located in the mall in Cedar Rapids, it just works to educate the public..they run science camps for youth also. We'll be painting, organizing, and overall improvment of the facilities.

I don't really know what else to put..I'm crippled temporarily and I'm happy about my upcoming project.
It's really busy though so the best way to get in touch with me is probably e-mail cause I can check/respond whenever I have free time.

Rail road tracks walking towards campus
My two friends helping me limp back to my room Friday night.

Went to this cultural food place, not sure of the name but it's really cool and has several types of food from soul food to Russian. This cupcake was the best one I've ever had in my life

Our first snow storm, there's more now...maybe I'll get another picture but it snows a lot!

I MADE IT

I posted about this on facebook but not everyone follows me on there, if you'd like just add me and I'll probably update that faster than this.
I did qualify for the fire fighting team though, had to be under 45 minutes and got 42:50 so go me! :) Here's hoping I get a spot.
This would just mean that I could work on different projects, involving fire. Also PT (physical training) 5 days a week opposed to 3 days like regular corps members.
Wish me luck guys - I assume I'll know by Monday night.

continued update

Today we had our last catered meal which was fabulous, I've been eating better here than I did before! Well not better, but more. We went grocery shopping last night which was an experience in itself. It's weird to think you're shopping for 10 people, it's a lot of food! But we managed to stay under budget, so go group M :)
Today we're just doing some final paper work before CTI starts (corps training institute) on Monday. We find out who will be on our teams Monday too - excited!
Also tonight I'm going to Target in Cedar Rapids and I'm super pumped about that, just to get off campus. There are tunnels connecting the four main buildings we go in so there's really no need to go outside so I have found that I'm not outside often - probably not a good thing, but it's very convienant in the weather. Which isn't that bad! It's snowy but it's not too cold until the wind picks up. The sky is probably the prettiest part out here - looks like it goes on forever! Kind of has an orange tint at night.
So far we've done uniforms, policy, and a basic orientation to CTI. This will last until March 8th when we have our induction ceremony, I'd say everyone is welcome to come but flying out here for just one night may not be exactly easy.

On that note - planes are SUPER small. I pictured them being a lot bigger, a girl here said that whenever she's flown the planes have been bigger, so maybe it's just because it's government funded. The plane wasn't bad though, the O'hare airport in Chicago is huge though, so if you ever have to go through there just bring some good shoes and walk fast!

Tomorrow starts my first weekend which is already pretty much planned. Saturday 8am I am doing the pack test for the fire fighting team, then Saturday afternoon I'm going on a shuttle to the "mall" in Cedar Rapids, I don't know exactly what's at this mall but I want to go. I don't really care where we go I just want to see everything.

It's only been a few days, but it feels like I've been here months already! But in a good way, kind of. I am starting to notice a difference in my personality and my approach to things. I'm doing things here already that I never thought I'd do. I'm a lot more open and social than I thought I could be, I haven't met that many people I really butt heads with so, so far it's been super positive. Going to bed by 10 (if not earlier) and getting up at 615 (it'll be earlier once we start PT) is kind of normal to me now. I feel like I get more accomplished by noon than I ever have before. Granted it's mainly getting up getting ready eating then trainings but still! It's interesting to see the changes happening so fast. I'm excited to see where I'll be by the end of the program.

I can't really think of anything else. But you guys should remember - "If you're early you're on time, if you're on time you're late!" it's been keeping me on time everywhere I go! I'm normally to muster (morning check-in) before my group leader is even there.

The atmosphere in this program is so pleasant, everyone is here for the same purpose and the same mind-set so it's really cool to see everyone, and meet so many different kinds of people. And honestly, if I can fit in well and love it I think anyone can! This program is already more than I ever expected it to be, and I can only imagine that it gets better.

Like I said in my last post - I'll update my address on here Monday night hopefully, maybe Tuesday. The one I posted before is still okay just the updated one will help them sort it faster.

Feel free to e-mail me or text me or whatever, I generally have a lot of free time. It's a lot of "hurry up and wait" like get to where you need to be then wait.

Love you guys!

First week!

So far so good :) love it here! Everyone is really nice, except a couple people but oh well some in every group!
It's kind of like high school on steroids, word gets around real fast! But most of it is constructive just sharing about what's going on where. The leaders are all great, super helpful and friendly. We find out our main groups Monday so I'm super excited. Ill have my permanent address then so ill update it on here then.
This Saturday is the fire fighting test and I'm trying out so here's hoping for the best. If I make it ill be on a special fire fighting team. So far it's just a lot of training and more to come over the next for weeks so I guess ill be overloaded with information! Dinner time now though I may try to update more later or this weekend

Miss everyone!
